Permin - Nanna (Natural Colour Alpaca+ Cotton+ Merino)
We dare to say that Nanna by Permin is a pure natural product, both in terms of fibres and colours. This environmentally friendly yarn consists of 47% alpaca, 45% cotton and 8% merino wool, without any chemical treatments.
What makes Nanna unique is that the yarn is only available in the natural colours of nature. The different colours of the alpacas make dyeing completely unnecessary, which makes the yarn even more sustainable. The natural shades of Nanna vary from warm white, beige and caramel to coffee and from grey tones to black – all completely natural and beautiful colours from the alpacas. The cotton thread in Nanna is also untreated and shows itself in its natural colour.
The special brushing of alpaca ensures a soft, fluffy and light yarn. You can replace a double mohair thread with just one thread of this yarn to knit a light, environmentally friendly, heavenly soft sweater. Alpaca wool is also antistatic and a great alternative for people who find mohair itchy. Alpaca wool gives the yarn a wonderful lightness and softness and is pleasantly temperature-regulating and breathable.
Nanna by Permin is produced in Italy by a family business that specializes in making blended yarns with alpaca. The company complies with EU chemical regulations and has a strong focus on the environment and safety. Transparency and sustainability are central to all processes, as well as attention to animal welfare and protection of animal habitats.
Facts about the alpaca:
The alpaca is sustainable for several reasons: Unlike other sources of wool, such as sheep and goats, which damage the pastures with their sharp hooves, the alpaca has only two toes with soft pads under its feet. These do not damage the soil and pastures. Alpacas eat grass by "cutting" it instead of pulling it out of the ground by the roots.
Alpaca wool contains less fat, which makes it easier to wash without the use of chemicals. Since 2500 BC the alpaca has been and continues to be an important source of income for the Inca people. The alpacas in the Inca region of Peru do not use any water or land intended for agriculture.
Washing instructions:
When your knitting is finished, we recommend washing it to keep the stitches nice and even and to remove any excess color. Use a wool detergent that cares for and preserves the fibers. After washing, dry your knitting by rolling it in a towel and squeezing out the excess water. Then place it on a dry towel and gently pull it to size according to the pattern. Leave to dry flat.
